Is the Gospel different through the Ages? Yes and No

Gospel views

There are five gospels; Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Romans. There are five different things to believe to be a part of the family of God through the ages.

When did the disciples get saved?

Matthew 16

15  He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17  And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Now you may ask how it is salvation believing Jesus is the Christ.

Romans 2:16  In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Romans 16:25  Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

II Timothy 2:8  Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

We would do good to remember that time changes some aspects of the gospel but not the key.

People are saved:

  1. From Adam to John the Baptist by faith in the coming Messiah.
  2. From John the Baptist to the death of Jesus by faith in the living Saviour.
  3. From the death of Jesus to the rapture by faith in the resurrected Saviour.
  4. From the rapture to the second coming by faith His second coming.
  5. From the second coming through the millennium by faith in His ruling.

First saved:

  • Adam was first to believe in the coming Messiah. Genesis 3
  • Simeon was first to believe in the living Saviour. Luke 2
  • Paul was first to believe in the resurrected Saviour. Acts 9
  • 144,000 will be the first to believe in the second coming. Revelation 7:4
  • Jews that endure the Great Tribulation will be first to believe in His rule. Matthew 24: 13-14

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are four different views of Jesus. John gives us the two key issues to believe in every chapter that will bring anyone into the family of God from Alpha to Omega. Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles and gives us the gospel for the Church Age.

Eating for the glory of God

lion-wont-eat-meat

Would you like to have more productive hours in your day? Would you like to have not just more days but more years to live? I am persuaded that God would like to give His people more productive and fruit bearing years on earth before He takes them to heaven but we cut our life short with disobedience.

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Did you know that there are things that God allows but they are not His will? Take divorce for example; under the law Moses gave an allowance for divorce but Jesus said that from the beginning it was not so. God allows us to eat meat but from the beginning it was not so.

Carnivores & Omnivores

  • Long sharp pointed teeth
  • Sleep more
  • Shorter life span
  • No digestive juices in mouth
  • Very strong stomach acid
  • Mouth goes up and down
  • Tears and swallows food

Herbivores

  • Teeth like people
  • Sleep less
  • Live longer
  • Digestive juices in mouth
  • Much less stomach acid
  • Mouth moves sideways
  • Chews food

Daniel was taken when Babylon first came to Jerusalem and he served the kings of that nation until Saturday night October 12, 444 BC when he was called into a room where the king and his men were drinking themselves drunk. Daniel was asked to interpret the writing on the wall that the men saw part of a hand write. Lester Roloff said that when Daniel saw the writing he said: “glory to God a letter from home.” :-)

After interpreting and being rewarded he went to the gate to welcome the king of the Medo-Persian Empire that had conquered the city without any violence. Then Daniel served that nation and lived all the way through the 70 years captivity and longer.

I am suggesting that chapter one is a hint to all future believers of how to be healthy, live long, and have a clear mind to communicate with the Lord.

And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Genesis 6:3

God’s Spirit strives with man for him to come to salvation and sanctification. In this verse God is telling us that He is cutting the number of years that he will give man to complete his testimony on earth. After this verse man’s life quickly gets shorter. As an observable rule today sickness and shorter lives follow meat eaters.

I watch believers ask the Lord to bless what they are about to eat then they shovel in all kinds of things that even secular nutritionists say is unhealthy.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. I Corinthians 10:31

Have you committed your body as a living sacrifice? Is that observable in how you eat?

The Maker’s manual for nutrition and good health

Responsibility

Do you know what it takes to keep sickness away? From 1975 to 1981 I heard a well known evangelist that had 6 orphanages. Lester Roloff was loved by many. People loved to hear him sing in spite of the fact that he could not carry a tune.

I remember helping one of my preacher boys take a prostitute from the street in Detroit and sending her to Roloff’s for rehabilitation. That girl is now married to a graduate from Roloff’s that is a pastor of a church.

The only thing that people did not like about Roloff was when he used the scriptures to preach on God’s nutritional plan to stay healthy.

One pastor of a church in upstate NY always love Roloff but ignored what he said about food in the Bible until he came down with colon cancer in 1976 after watching his mother die of the same thing. Then he called Lester Roloff for advice. That pastor’s name is George Malkmus. He followed the advice, conquered the cancer and has not been sick since and he is just shy of 80 years old.

I have heard messages on Daniel chapter one where the preacher only talked about conviction but not nutrition. I believe that if you want to have a close relationship with the Lord in your later years it requires a clear mind and that comes from doing like Daniel.

God’s original diet for man

“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Genesis 1:29

8 ¶  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

12  Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Daniel 1

It is most interesting to note that the book that has the most significant prophecies in all of the Bible came through a man that went back to the original diet.  God doesn’t harp on this truth but wants us to be healthy through obedience to His word.

“And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.”  Exodus 15:26

150-250 years ago in America the main text book was the Bible for:

  • History which is His story
  • Science
  • Medicine
  • Business
  • Math

Did you know that one man 800 years ago studied Genesis chapter one and discovered quantum physics and things that it took millions of dollars and many physics majors to confirm?

I will write more on this subject tomorrow. I know that I am on unfriendly ground writing on such a subject even with those who have dedicated their body as a living sacrifice are not willing to sacrifice their traditional American diet for God’s no sickness and long life diet.

Patience is a required ingredient for Growth

Growing

I am a very patient person; just give me what I want, when I want it, and I am content to wait. :) Ask a child how old they are and you will get an answer like: “I am going on ___.”

For a child patience is learning to sit quietly during church that is a mark of maturity, a measuring point you can explain to a child. Have them practice at home. When the child is very young tell them you will time them to see if they can sit still for a full minute then praise them for doing so.

Older children often say “I just can’t wait until _____.” When I hurt something as a child my mother would say: “don’t die; suffer we like you and want to keep you around.” That was her attempt at humor to get me to laugh at a painful circumstance.

Adults use credit cards to obtain things they cannot afford. They are imposing upon the future by living on credit cards.

Many like the verse James 1:5 but don’t know the context.

2 ¶  My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

9  Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10  But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11  For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12  Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

The context is learning patience during temptations. The answer is not blowing the horn at the other guy, holding bitterness, or getting a divorce.

Consider Mr. & Mrs. Job. She had no patience but learned it on round two of 10 children. We know this because of how the girls turned out. There is no gain without pain. The Marines say: “sweat is just weakness coming out.” If you are going through a trial of your faith and needing to learn patience that is when you should ask God for wisdom but don’t expect Him to just pour it in, get up early and prepare your heart in the word of God and with prayer. We don’t need to ask for patience God knows our need and will continue to work on us.

How is your growth in patience?

Ownership

Stewardship

Ownership is what you own often ends up owning you. People with a lot of riches often get them quick and easy and have a lot of worries. Having great wealth is being in control of what is important it takes time and results in a lot of peace.

I saw a bumper sticker: “he who dies with the most toys; wins.” I think he wins the biggest fool award. One of the largest industries in the world is the production of toys. Computer game companies bring in more than double that of the movie industry. Interestingly enough is that the movie people market to the whole world and the game people only market to boys 17-27 although it spills over to many older (but not more mature.)

Boys get started playing computer games then want to go to war and kill someone then end up with PTSD and end up on drugs and government dependency. Playing the computer games started out as fun but turned into a form of greed wanting more and more until they were trapped. So you see wanting more money is not the only form of greed.

The government takeover of America is perhaps the most subtle act of greed since The Garden of Eden. Nikita Khrushchev used his shoe as a gavel hitting the table in 1961 as he loudly proclaimed: “we will bury you!” The verbal context was: “Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will dig you in.” He was warning us that people are lazy and will vote in the government to take care of their responsibilities for them.

All of the truly wealthy people that I know are not stacking up riches but build systems to take care of people and serve people and give back to the community.

Stewardship is genuine leadership. How many are you serving?

Freedom

Free

Freedom is greatly misunderstood. Satan offered freedom in The Garden of Eden. Prior to Satan coming into The Garden of Eden Adam and Eve were:

  • Confined to a small place
  • Only knew what the Lord had told them
  • Knew nothing about religion (good) and evil (separation).

I Corinthians 9:19

For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

The Apostle Paul learned what it meant to actually be free. Prior to meeting The Lord on the road to Damascus he had bought into the lie that he was free. He was highly educated in formal religion and separated from the truth of Jesus Christ.

Paul experienced a radical paradigm shift. Don’t let the word radical scare you it simply means a return to roots. For example in Paul’s case he threw off the confining boundaries of religion when he saw the truth of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Paul’s religion kept him separated from life which would have led him to hell.

All religion is radical, a relationship with Jesus Christ is radical and the two are radically different. To experience the freedom that God designed for us requires a paradigm shift. If you want what the True and Living God is offering:

  • Cry out to God and ask Him to reveal who He is
  • Read the Bible with a pad of paper and make notes as to what He says to you
  • Make the changes He reveals to you daily.

Now let me re-label those bullet points

  1. Pray
  2. Read
  3. Faith

Praying is not bending God’s arm to get Him to give you everything you want it is asking Him to reveal who He is. Reading the Bible should not be done like you are reading a novel you are looking into the book He wrote to conform you into the character of Jesus. Faith is not a blind leap faith is an informed paradigm shift to live for Jesus and serve others.

Are you free?

Growing in Patience is Maturing in Christ

Growing

How does a believer grow into maturity?

James 1:2

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Right! How can any rational being say it is joy when you are having troubles?

I Peter 4:13

But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Jude 1:24

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

Peter and Jude chime in on the same note and Paul in a damp dirty dungeon in Philippians write over and over about joy and rejoicing.

To answer the question: how can we have joy in the midst of trouble we must look at a new perspective. Consider the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ inaugural address to Christianity. He gives 8 beatitudes. Seven is the perfect number. So look at the seventh beatitude.

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

A peacemaker is one who takes two who are at odds and brings them together.

  • Man and God
  • Husband and wife
  • Brother and sister
  • Business partners
  • Two employees

So we see that the peacemaker is not only a soul winner but the one with the answers to life situations. That person will rise up through the ranks as a person with the character of Christ. The devil does not like that so he will send out his minions to do their dirty work.

Matthew 5

11  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Now then we see the eighth beatitude. Eight is the number of new beginning. It is cap and gown time. We are going across the stage with our diploma in hand. Outward evidence of crowns in heaven is persecution here. When we learn to rejoice during the trouble the world knows we do not fit in their box. Now then we can go for the next cycle and graduate to another level.

Does this help? Now can you get excited about the petty little problems we face here and now? Not even close to anything the apostles faced is it?

How do I know it is Faith?

Faith

Worship is a walk of faith. It is rooted in what you believe. Now comes the heart of the issue: what are your roots grounded in?

  • Is faith a feeling?
  • Is it faith because the preacher said it?
  • Is it faith because I saw it in the Bible?

John 4

23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

In this passage on worship Jesus reveals two necessary ingredients.

  • Spirit
  • Truth

Jesus told us that He is the truth, John 14:6. Jesus told us that the Bible reveals Him, John 5:39.

The Spirit was sent by the Father after Jesus left and given to all believers, John 14:26. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things, I John 2:27.

There are many possibilities for hearing about faith.

  • Church
  • Radio
  • Parents
  • And the list could go on

Years ago I was preaching at an upper middle class suburban church with about 500 present. During the invitation God told me to do something I have never done before or since. He told me to extend an invitation for someone called to preach. I did so and a man in his 20’s came forward.

I overheard those talking with him. They asked if this was an emotional decision. He assured them that the Holy Spirit had been working on him for some time.

Another time I was asked to go to the home of a lady whose mother had been a witch. They had twin 17 year sons that were playing Dungeons & Dragons; a demonic game designed to get young people into the occult and then take them to the next level. During one of their games one of the boys twisted his brother over his head like a baton and dropped him on a chain link fence nearly killing him.

The father who was an executive with a large corporation came home while I talked with his family. Each family member received Christ except one of the twins. Then I suggested that they sign up for a seminar that would help them with their walk with the Lord.

They all wanted to sign up even the boy that did not get saved but then the father said “wait a minute are you just excited about this because of this smooth talking preacher?” Each said they wanted to go and they did. At the seminar the other twin received Jesus as his only hope for salvation.

We need to ask our self the questions that the altar workers and the father in the above illustrations asked. Is God in this? Otherwise we will be caught not only in false religion but also get rich schemes, bad business deals, used car salesmen with less than desirable deals after the fact.

Think of it this way; we have an unfair advantage against the world, the flesh, and the devil by being able to ask the Holy Spirit. Our challenge is to be able to hear from Him.

  • Are your sins confessed?
  • Are you tuned in?
  • Are you asking for His guidance?

The Responsibility of the Counselor

Responsibility

I just finished counseling someone that needed prodding to be responsible. Remembering the job of a counselor is to get people to see their responsibility to the Lord. As I deal with others now it is much easier to be compassionate. I remember my own failures from way back and from yesterday.

I like to remind people that each one of us is autonomous beings that make our own choices. No one likes to be ordered around. My mother was a genius. She told me things when I was 5 years old that were way too heavy for me and then told me I would be responsible to protect my little sister.

My mother explained that most of the time I could just tell her where I was going and unless she said otherwise it was okay. She rarely challenged my decisions but did so enough to keep me on my toes. I believe that her early dealings with me programmed more responsibility into me.

Theology is designed to dictate morality but what in fact happens is immorality creates theology and everyone falls into the devil’s lies who then steals people’s lives with the ultimate goal of murder for eternity.

As a believer I think scripturally but communicate with character which works on the logical side of people. To sell them I give my testimony which is my personal story and it works on their emotional side. If I only work on Bible I will lose them.

When I see the shortcomings of another my antenna goes up because I realize that God is trying to point out my sin in the same area. If I see the failures of others and react then I am immature.

How are you doing? Are you seeing others failures and confessing your own?

Faith is not a feeling or a blind leap

Faith

Faith is based on facts obtained by walking in the light of the word of God

The Gospel is a secret and a mystery for saints to reveal to the lost for their salvation.

In the diagram above faith is on the word of God. Faith not found in the word of God is presumption.

Romans 16:25

Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

Colossians 1:26

Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

John 6:29

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Faith Goals

I want to walk and talk with the Lord like Enoch

I want to stand against the world like Noah

I want to have faith in times of uncertainty like Job

I want to obey like Abraham

I want to be a willing sacrifice like Isaac

I want to wrestle with the Lord like Jacob

I want to be virtuous like Joseph

I want to Meditate and write like David

I want to Pray like Daniel

I want to see the Lord high and lifted up like Isaiah

I want to weep like Jeremiah

I want to preach to the multitudes like Peter

I want to run like Paul

Fear is faith without love.

Faith is fear with love.

Love is faith that has passed through hope and cast off fear.

Faith is the Victory

Never play fair. Use a bigger weapon that brings fear to the enemy. Giving the gospel is beating the devil. He wants us to think we can do something without Jesus.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Faith does not believe in believing. Biblical faith has its foundation in the word of God. Religion says if you can conceive it and believe it you can achieve it. That is ambition not faith. Faith is receiving something from the word of God and committing to cooperate with God in that area. This will build a relationship with the Lord.

Check your relationship with the Lord by checking on what you are building. God is most concerned with people building.
